Primoris Services Corporation has been selected to provide mechanical construction of the new Unit 4 at the Grand River Energy Center in Chouteau, Oklahoma.
The project will employ state-of-the-art simple cycle technology to meet the needs of the Grand River Dam Authority’s evolving grid, replacing the center’s last remaining coal-fired unit and supplementing wind power production, the company noted.

Unit 4 will be a fast-start, 426-megawatt Mitsubishi 501JAC gas turbine, a class known for its efficiency and emission control. It will be the first of its kind to operate in simple cycle in the U.S., providing operational flexibility and fast start-up times.
Unit 4 will also include the world’s largest selective catalytic reduction system, crucial for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions and ensuring compliance with environmental standards.

Simple cycle power plants can supplement renewable energy sources through their ability to start and stop quickly, allowing their use during peak load times, resulting in grid stabilization and lowered reliance on fossil fuels.
The GREC Unit 4 project is set to generate significant economic and environmental benefits for the Chouteau, Oklahoma area, supporting local jobs during construction and providing a stable energy source for businesses and communities, Primoris said.
GRDA is Oklahoma’s largest public power electric utility, fully funded by revenues from electric and water sales instead of taxes.
GRDA is also a steward of the waters of the Grand and Illinois Rivers in Oklahoma and manages over 70,000 surface acres of premier Oklahoma lake waters, as well as miles and miles of the Scenic Illinois River.
