Nebraska public power utility Omaha Public Power District on June 6 will host the first of two pilot community resource fairs.
The fairs are designed to be a one-stop shop for customers where they can learn about the community services available to them. Customers will be able to visit a variety of informational stations, including OPPD’s.
“We will provide guidance on saving energy and weatherizing homes, as well as bill payment options and assistance,” OPPD noted.
Through these two pilots, “we hope to learn more about our community and get feedback from our customers, then use that input to create similar fairs across our 13-county service territory,” it said.
“We held a listening session in the vicinity of our North Omaha Station power plant a couple of years ago, and we received feedback from customers that they wanted to see OPPD more active and visible in their community,” noted Jodi Baker, Media Specialist for OPPD.
“So, we researched ways in which other public power utilities are engaging their customers in the communities they serve,” she said.
“We were particularly impressed by the kinds of things we saw” Austin Energy, SMUD and CPS Energy doing. “And we worked directly with CPS Energy to plan community fairs similar to theirs,” she said.
“As a public power utility, we are deeply rooted in the communities we serve. Hosting events like this is a way to not only connect with our customers where they live, but also to help them thrive. And we’re really proud of that.”
The second fair is scheduled to take place on Oct. 8, 2024.
