Colorado Springs Utilities Chief Executive Officer Travas Deal has named Nick Peters as the new Chief System Planning and Projects Officer, effective immediately.
In this role, Peters will be responsible for aligning the engineering division across Springs Utilities’ four-service operations, leveraging best practices in resource and infrastructure planning, design services and project execution.
“Delivering on our five-year financial plan is critical as we look to add nearly $3.9 billion in assets by 2030,” said Deal. “Nick is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the technical and operational practices of a four-service utility. He brings a strategic mindset, a passion for safety and culture, and a strong commitment to developing his teams. His ability to form collaborative partnerships and drive execution will be instrumental as we build the future together. I’m confident in his leadership and excited about the direction we’re heading.”
Peters joined Springs Utilities in 2010 and currently serves as general manager of the Construction and Maintenance Department within the Operations Division. In this role, he oversees utility construction, maintenance, support services and intergovernmental agreements. His leadership has spanned multiple departments and initiatives focused on engineering, system performance, safety culture and workforce planning.
Previously, Peters established and led the Operations Technical Services Department, launching key programs in work management, system diagnostics and controls engineering.
He also managed the construction of major generation assets, decommissioned legacy infrastructure and drove continuous improvement across utility services.
“I’m honored for the opportunity to help lead this exceptional organization of dedicated and caring professionals,” said Peters. “Together, we will continue to build resilient systems and deliver reliable service to our community.”
He replaces Lisa Barbato, who served in the position from March 2022 to August 2025 when she retired.
