Nebraska’s Dawson Public Power District has issued a request for bids for a substation transformer.

Dawson Public Power District is accepting sealed bids for the Hershey Cold Storage Substation Power Transformer, with a deadline of August 19, 2026, for responses.

Prior to the issuance of the solicitation, Dawson Public Power District in July discussed plans at a board meeting for the Nebraska International Port of the Plains located at the Hershey Rail Park.

The North Platte Area Chamber and Development has paid a $4 million project deposit funded through the Nebraska Rural Projects Act matching grant, using state and local resources.

The Hershey project is following Nebraska Public Power District’s large load process, which requires system impact and transmission studies.

The transformer required to serve the initial load at the site has an anticipated two to three-year production time.
