The Lincoln Electric System Administrative Board approved a resolution to adopt a new strategic plan to guide the utility through 2035, the Nebraska public power utility said on Aug. 15.

The plan, titled Powering LES Forward, outlines a long-term vision and strategic roadmap to position LES for success amid evolving customer expectations, dynamic energy markets, regulatory shifts and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns, it noted.

The plan’s development began in Oct. 2024 through a partnership with PA Consulting Group and was shaped by extensive community input.

“This strategic plan is a bold step forward for LES,” said Emeka Anyanwu, LES chief executive officer. “We’ve built a plan that not only addresses today’s challenges but positions us — and the communities we serve — to thrive in an evolving energy landscape.”

The planning process included a series of public meetings and a community survey conducted in the spring. LES employees and board members also played a key role in shaping the plan’s priorities.

Powering LES Forward redefines LES’ mission and vision:

  • Mission: Powering our community through responsible stewardship of our shared resources.
  • Vision: Driving our energy future where people and power enable progress.
  • Powering LES Forward also identifies five strategic objectives that provide structure for the plan:
  • Customer & Community: Optimally deploy LES’ resources to help meet customers’ and the community’s evolving power needs.
  • Infrastructure: Build and maintain a reliable, resilient and adaptable grid and supporting systems.
  • Financial Health: Ensure that LES can fund the activities required to achieve its mission and vision.
  • Workforce Readiness: Retain, develop and attract a talented workforce to boost organizational performance.
  • Sustainability: Reduce LES’ CO2 footprint and manage demand peaks to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Implementation of the strategic plan will begin immediately, with progress updates shared regularly with the public and stakeholders.

“LES has a long-standing commitment to delivering reliable, affordable and sustainable energy,” said Anyanwu. “This plan ensures we continue to meet that commitment while preparing for the future.”
