Wisconsin public power utility Kaukauna Utilities recently broke ground on its new reverse osmosis water treatment plant.
In May 2025, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin issued a Certificate of Authority for Kaukauna Utilities to move forward with the project -- a pivotal step that confirms the project is both cost-effective and environmentally responsible.
"Breaking ground on our reverse osmosis treatment facility marks an exciting milestone, but it's really the result of years of careful planning, extensive community outreach and thoughtful decision-making," said Michael Avanzi, General Manager of Kaukauna Utilities. "This investment will modernize our aging water infrastructure, enhance water quality, and ensure we continue providing safe, reliable service to our customers for generations to come."
Since receiving approval, Kaukauna Utilities has worked closely with its engineering consultants to develop detailed plans and specifications for the new facilities.
The groundbreaking of Water Treatment Plant #1 took place on July 7.
“This project represents a significant investment in modernizing water infrastructure and will help provide residents with high-quality drinking water. The PSC is proud to support investments that contribute to safe and reliable utility services for Wisconsin residents,” the PSC said in a recent LinkedIn post.
