Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that JEA will receive a $1,487,299 grant through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Alternative Water Supply program to support expansion of reclaimed water storage capacity in Nocatee, Fla., the Florida public power utility said on Oct. 28.
The grant will help offset the $3.5 million construction cost of JEA’s facility expansion project, which will increase capacity to deliver reclaimed water to customers in northern St. Johns County, one of the fastest-growing areas in Northeast Florida.
The storage tank will double reclaimed water capacity at JEA’s Nocatee South Facility, which currently has a 1.38-million-gallon storage tank and four high-service pumps. The additional capacity will help JEA meet growing demand for reclaimed water, reduce reliance on the Floridan Aquifer and protect the region’s long-term water resources.
JEA’s grant was among 45 projects awarded a combined $100 million to protect and restore Florida’s water resources.
The funding is provided through the state’s Springs Restoration and Alternative Water Supply grant programs, which support efforts to preserve Florida’s iconic springs, expand alternative water supplies and promote water conservation.
