Florida public power utility Gainesville Regional Utilities is reducing its electric fuel adjustment from 50 to 45 mills and its purchased gas adjustment from 35 to 32 cents per therm beginning Sept. 29.
The reduction will lower a 1,000 kWh residential electric bill from $151.60 to $146.60, or $5.
The purchased gas reduction will lower a 25-therm residential natural gas bill from $35.74 to $34.99, or 75 cents. GRU’s residential gas charges are already among the lowest in the state.
GRU does not make money from the electric fuel adjustment or purchased gas adjustment, instead passing through these fuel costs with no profit. GRU regularly evaluates these charges and increases or decreases them based on market conditions, it noted.
“We’re projecting lower fuel costs in the coming months, so we’re passing those savings on to customers,” said GRU CEO Ed Bielarski. “At the same time, our new fiscal year begins Oct. 1, and we kept electric base rates steady for the third consecutive year. We understand the financial constraints many customers are under and are doing our best to maintain affordable bills.”
