The Florida Municipal Power Association recently held a substation roundtable that tackled a number of topics.
Specific topics discussed at the roundtable were fault location, isolation, and service restoration (FLISR), static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), human performance indicators, and substation robotics.
Florida public power utility Keys Energy Services in Key West, Fla., hosted the roundtable, which took place in mid-August. There were a total of 25 members from nine different utilities that participated.
“Keys Energy Services was proud to host the Florida Municipal Power Agency’s Substation Roundtable for the first time at our headquarters in Key West,” said Rob DePhillips, Substation Supervisor, Keys Energy.
“Public power engineers, supervisors, technicians, and electricians came together from municipal utilities across Florida to share knowledge and collaborate,” he said.
“Presentations covered topics such as FLISR, STATCOMs, human performance indicators, and substation robotics, with vendors also highlighting advancements in relay networking and metal-clad switchgear. The roundtable format allowed participants to exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and explore solutions. KEYS looks forward to future Substation Roundtables with FMPA as we continue to promote learning, innovation, and collaboration with our utility partners,” DePhillips said.
FMPA has held the substation roundtable since 2021.
