The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recently approved North American Electric Reliability Corporation Reliability Standard PRC-029-2 -- Frequency and Voltage Ride-through Requirements for Inverter-Based Resources.

NERC noted that this is the latest standard to address potential electric reliability concerns as inverter-based resources (IBR) are integrated into the bulk power system.

The new standard, which became effective on October 1, ensures that IBRs ride through to support the bulk power system during and after defined frequency and voltage excursions.

It increases the reliability benefits of Reliability Standard PRC-029-1 by properly rebalancing the competing goals of maximizing performance while avoiding premature retirements or retrofits, NERC said.
