Construction is underway on two new synchronous condensers at the Lower Colorado River Authority's Bakersfield Substation, large spinning machines that help keep the electric grid stable and reliable as more wind, solar and battery resources come online.

Crews just finished the foundations -- 500+ cubic yards of concrete for each 479-ton condenser.

The project is set to wrap up in mid-2027.

The Lower Colorado River Authority Bakersfield Substation is a major 345-kV facility in Pecos County, Texas.
