The California Municipal Utilities Association announced the promotion of Derek Dolfie to Senior Director of Energy, effective January 1, 2026.
Dolfie will continue to oversee all of CMUA's energy policy work, including legislative and regulatory policy functions.
Since joining CMUA in January 2024 as Director of Energy, Dolfie has achieved significant policy victories for CMUA members. His accomplishments include helping to pass the Pathways Initiative and successfully advocating for the reauthorization of the Cap and Invest program (formerly Cap and Trade) in a way that should not harm CMUA members, CMUA noted.
"Derek has been an outstanding advocate for CMUA and our members since day one," said Danielle Blacet-Hyden, CMUA's executive director. "His expertise, strategic thinking, and collaborative approach have been instrumental in advancing our energy policy priorities. We're thrilled to recognize his contributions with this well-deserved promotion."
Dolfie brings significant advocacy experience, with a strong focus on environmental and energy policy issues. Before joining CMUA, he served as a senior public policy manager for ChargePoint Inc., where he oversaw legislative and regulatory strategy in California and the western states. Before that, he spent six years at the League of California Cities, where he spearheaded advocacy efforts on environmental quality and community services issues.
“I am honored to receive this promotion and thankful for the opportunity to continue to serve our members and represent them with policymakers," Dolfie said. "I look forward to continuing to work with the CMUA team and our members on crafting California energy policy.”
