Springfield, Illinois, public power utility City Water, Light, and Power and the City of Springfield, Illinois, along with The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, recently celebrated the installation of the final electric vehicle charging stations made possible through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant Program.

The project adds 40 new Level 2 charging ports at nine locations throughout Springfield, including downtown, UIS, parks, retail areas, and other high-traffic destinations.

The expanded network makes EV charging more accessible while supporting local businesses and helping build infrastructure for Springfield’s future, CWLP noted on Oct. 2.
