California public power utility Burbank Water and Power is launching a meter system upgrade project this spring.

“This necessary upgrade project includes two key components: replacing aging water meter communication modules and electric meters. This work is necessary to ensure continued reliability, meter accuracy and an enhanced customer experience, empowering customers with more insight into their water and electric usage,” it said.

Starting May 27, 2025, BWP will partner with Concord Utility Service to install new wireless communication modules in all water meters citywide. These enhancements will continue to allow BWP to receive near real-time water usage data.  All work will be completed within the existing water meter boxes, and no interruption to water service is expected. The citywide rollout is expected to be completed within 12 months.

In June 2025, BWP staff will begin exchanging all electric meters throughout Burbank. This upgrade will take place over 24 months and is designed to ensure continued accuracy in electric billing and long-term reliability of electric service.
