A bipartisan group of 29 members on Oct. 23 sent a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-AL), and Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) urging them to attach the Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA) to the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The letter stresses the importance of decisive and timely action to address wildfire mitigation nationwide.

The letter notes that FOFA is “the only package that is bipartisan, bicameral, and has undergone a comprehensive committee process in both chambers of Congress” and it “will meaningfully address the wildfire crisis.”

APPA strongly supports FOFA. There are two very similar versions of the bill as drafted by the House (H.R. 471) and the Senate (S. 1462).

APPA said it will monitor the NDAA process to see if provisions from FOFA are incorporated or if one of the versions of the bill is added in its entirety.
