Benton PUD General Manager Rick Dunn has announced plans to retire in April 2027, concluding nearly 20 years with the District and a 40-year career dedicated to the power and electric utility industries, the Washington State PUD said on Sept. 18.
Throughout his tenure at Benton PUD, Dunn has helped lead the organization’s deployment of leading-edge technologies while maintaining a strong focus on reliable and affordable service, constant improvement, sound stewardship and a commitment to value people in all aspects of the utilities business.
As he prepares for retirement, he expressed confidence in the organization and its employees to continue Benton PUD’s longstanding commitment to serving its customers and communities.
“Benton PUD was an outstanding organization long before I arrived, and I am confident its legacy of excellence will continue for many years to come,” Dunn said. “The strength of our leadership team and the talent, character and dedication of our employees give me tremendous peace and confidence in this decision.”
Dunn also reflected on the relationships that have defined his time at Benton PUD and expressed his appreciation for those who have worked alongside him throughout his tenure.
“It has been a privilege to be part of this team,” Dunn said. “I am incredibly grateful for the friendship and support I have received over the years and, most importantly, for the unwavering dedication of our employees to one another and to the customers and communities we serve.”
Benton PUD’s three elected commissioners have begun planning for a smooth leadership transition for the next General Manager, including conducting a comprehensive search for an experienced electric utility leader to build on Benton PUD’s strong foundation and lead the organization into its next chapter.
