The American Public Power Association and officials from public power utilities recently wrapped up a day and a half mutual aid workshop and exercise in Oklahoma.

The exercise was sponsored by the Department of Energy under a Cooperative Agreement with APPA.

Municipal Electric Systems of Oklahoma Inc., Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority, Grand River Dam Authority and Kansas Municipal Utilities co-hosted the event.

There were around 90 participants from Oklahoma and Kansas, representatives from the Oklahoma and Kansas Offices of Emergency Management, a DOE Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response representative, FEMA representatives from Regions VI and VII, and APPA Mutual Aid Committee representatives.

The workshop was designed to prepare participants for mutual aid events.

Sessions covered Incident Command System Overview, presentations from State Emergency Managers from Oklahoma and Kansas, DOE, and FEMA on emergency response and reimbursement, and case studies from Oklahoma utilities on recent storm events.

APPA was represented at the event by Nina Stallworth, Program Management Assistant, Pat Hart, Senior Director for Resilience Programs, and Giacomo Wray, Operations Services Manager.
