Oregon public power utility Eugene Water & Electric Board will receive funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for permanent repairs to transmission lines from 2024 severe winter storms, straight-line winds, landslides and mudslides.

The nearly $1.3 million in funding was announced by FEMA in late September.

“EWEB is grateful for the funding from FEMA to continue making our electric system more resilient in the face of extreme weather, which is growing increasingly common. This kind of external funding bolsters the system, while keeping rates low for customers,” said EWEB spokesperson Aaron Orlowski.

FEMA on Sept. 29 announced the approval of nearly $43 million in post-disaster and mitigation funding for Public Assistance, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities projects and assistance programs in Alaska, Oregon and Washington.
