GridLiance West, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Transmission, recently joined federal, state and local leaders to celebrate the start of construction on the GridLiance West Core Upgrades Project, approximately 155 miles of new 230-kilovolt and 500-kilovolt transmission lines and new and upgraded substations in Nevada.
When completed in mid-2028, "the expanded transmission network will unlock access to additional energy resources, create opportunities for new industrial investment and generate tax revenue for local communities that will help support schools, emergency services and public infrastructure," a news release said.
Robby Hamlin, Chief Executive Officer, Valley Electric Association, said: “As a member-owned cooperative, every major decision we make is guided by the value it delivers to our members. Our collaboration with GridLiance West represents an important investment in the future of our cooperative and the communities we serve."
Hamlin said that by connecting to a larger transmission network through GridLiance West’s Core Upgrades Project, "Valley Electric gains access to significant transmission investment, expertise and resources needed to strengthen system reliability, enhance resilience and support the continued growth of our region."
