Heartland Energy recently announced Brooke Rollag as its new director of economic development.
"With more than 20 years of experience in banking and economic development, Rollag brings a strong understanding of the relationships, resources and opportunities that help communities grow and thrive," Heartland said.
“Economic development has been an important part of Heartland’s work for many years, and we’ve seen firsthand the difference the right resources and relationships can make in a community,” Heartland CEO Russell Olson said. “Brooke brings the experience and perspective to build on that work and help our customer communities pursue opportunities for growth.”
Most recently, Rollag served as executive director of Madison Area Development Corporation (MADC), where she led efforts focused on workforce development, housing, childcare, industrial growth, and community engagement.
During her time at MADC, Rollag helped turn community needs into tangible projects. Among her accomplishments were spearheading a $4.5 million childcare facility and helping secure funding for an industrial park expansion that added 60 shovel-ready acres for future development. She also helped transform an underutilized building into a community sportsplex.
“Heartland has been a longtime partner of MADC, so I’ve had the privilege of working alongside an outstanding team that cares about helping communities,” Rollag said. “This opportunity allows me to continue making a meaningful impact—just from a different seat at the table.”
Rollag previously spent more than a decade with Great Western Bank, where she held progressive leadership roles and worked closely with community development organizations and local partners.
Growing up in Colman, SD, a Heartland customer community, gives Rollag a unique understanding of the challenges facing smaller communities.
“Rural is what I know, and it’s where I’m passionate about making a difference,” Rollag said. “It’s about creating opportunities that strengthen communities.”
Rollag looks forward to helping Heartland customers connect with resources and turn ideas into meaningful economic development projects. Her goal is simple: understand each community’s unique challenges, build strong relationships, and work together to find solutions, Heartland said.
Rollag will officially begin her duties with Heartland September 1.
