Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe recently signed SB 953 into law, which includes several Missouri Public Utility Alliance legislative priorities that MPUA worked on throughout this year's legislative session.
The bill includes provisions to allow entities with storage allocations in reservoirs operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to receive storage credit for treated water that is returned to the reservoir. It also corrects statutory fire hydrant inspection requirements by replacing the word “annual” with “scheduled,” restoring the industry practice of inspecting hydrants on a periodic basis rather than every year, MPUA noted in its e-newsletter published this month.
The bill also includes MPUA-supported changes to the composition of the Clean Water Commission, helping ensure balanced representation and the technical expertise needed to make informed decisions affecting Missouri's water resources.
These provisions will take effect on August 28, 2026.
