The City of Walters, Oklahoma, and Walters Public Works Authority in June celebrated the groundbreaking of a new Substation Capacity Enhancement Project.
This $4.3 million project, made possible through Community Project Funding secured by U.S. Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla,), "will strengthen our electric infrastructure, improve reliability, increase capacity for future growth “and better serve the citizens of Walters for the next 20 to 30 years,” a post on the city’s Facebook page noted.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to Congressman Tom Cole for his unwavering support and commitment to rural Oklahoma communities. We are also thankful to the many local legislators, elected officials, council members, community leaders, utility partners, city staff and residents who joined us to celebrate this important milestone.”
Cole, OMPA General Manager Brad Hans, City Manager Matt LaFee and Roger Noland, Electric Supervisor, made remarks during the ceremony.
“Projects of this magnitude do not happen overnight. They require strong partnerships, dedicated leadership and a community willing to invest in its future. Today was a celebration of what can be accomplished when local, state, and federal partners work together toward a common goal,” the city noted.
