CPS Energy President and CEO Rudy Garza on June 1 delivered his notice of intent to retire from the San Antonio,Texas-based public power utility.

“We thank Rudy for his 14 years of service with CPS Energy,” said Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Francine Romero. “He has built a strong and effective leadership team, and CPS Energy remains well positioned to maintain the high standards he established to continue advancing our strategic priorities.”

“It has been the honor of my lifetime to work with the talented and dedicated team at CPS Energy,” said Garza. “I am proud of the fantastic leaders in this organization and the work we have done together as One Team to build out long term strategies to power the Greater San Antonio community now and into the future. I thank each of the 3,600 employees whose dedication to serving our community inspired me each day. I appreciate the Board’s confidence in my leadership and will work with them and senior leadership to ensure a smooth transition.”

Under Garza’s leadership, the organization developed one of the most effective executive leadership teams in the industry and formalized key initiatives, including Vision 2027, Vision 2030, and Horizon 2050, the utility noted.

These initiatives have strengthened the utility’s power generation portfolio, enhanced the safety culture, kept customer bills among the lowest in the state, and initiated an essential enterprise-wide technology transformation, CPS Energy said.

A special meeting of the Board will be held on June 4 to address the CEO succession process.
