The House of Representatives passed H.R. 4626, the Home Appliance Protection and Affordability Act, introduced by Rep. Rick Allen (R-GA), by a vote of 217-190.
Formerly called the Don’t Mess with My Home Appliances Act, the legislation would change how the Department of Energy (DOE) sets efficiency standards for appliances and other equipment, including distribution transformers.
The bulk of H.R. 4626 is focused on energy efficiency standards for home appliances. With regards to distribution transformers, section three of the bill would prevent new efficiency standards for distribution transformers and not allow efficiency standards for distribution transformers to be changed in the future.
The bill moves to the Senate for consideration.
APPA urged its members to share any feedback they may have on the provision regarding distribution transformer efficiency standards.
