Oregon public power utility Springfield Utility Board has received approval for $9,638,749 in funding through Oregon’s Safe Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund to support the McKenzie River Water Supply Project, a key investment in Springfield’s long-term drinking water reliability and resiliency.
“SUB is committed to pursuing funding opportunities that reduce financial impacts on customers,” said Greg Miller, SUB’s Director of Water Engineering and Operations. “Delivering on that commitment while advancing critical water infrastructure is the kind of mission-based, responsible stewardship we strive for on behalf of our community."
Approximately $3 million of the award is structured as a forgivable loan, with the remaining funds provided at low-interest rates. The funding will support the final stages of project design and permitting. Additionally, it will reimburse SUB for design and permitting incurred over the past year.
The revolving loan program is administered by Business Oregon in partnership with Oregon Health Authority and is supported in part through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The program prioritizes projects that protect public health, strengthen drinking water systems, and support affordability for communities.
Funding through the loan program allows communities to move forward with essential drinking water projects while helping to keep local water rates affordable. The forgivable portion of this award further reduces costs for ratepayers, particularly for projects that advance public health and long-term system sustainability.
The McKenzie River Water Supply Project will enhance Springfield’s drinking water system by providing a resilient, high-quality source. The project will also strengthen system reliability and help ensure safe, dependable drinking water for the community, the utility noted.
