On October 6, Alabama public power utility Huntsville Utilities held the ribbon cutting for its new Systems Operations Center in Huntsville.
The 25,000-square-foot facility utilizes cutting edge technology that allows System Operators to monitor electric, water, and natural gas distribution in the service area, quickly dispatching crews to make repairs as needed.
The center is structurally designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, including strong tornadoes, and has multi-system redundancy to minimize downtime.
Construction began in October 2023 and was completed in September 2025.
