The North American Electric Reliability Corporation recently issued a Level 2 Industry Recommendation Alert urging industry participants to take specific actions to mitigate risks to bulk power system reliability that may arise from customer-initiated load reductions.

Affected entities should collaborate with their large load customers in North America to meet reporting requirements. This may involve reaching out to large load customers, such as cryptocurrency miners and data centers, who typically do not engage with NERC, NERC said.

Specifically, the alert focuses on evaluating dynamic modeling and simulation practices related to large loads and their interconnection requirements.

It will assess the study processes, commissioning procedures, and dynamic modeling for Large Loads to identify additional actions needed to address any observed deficiencies.
