The Florida Municipal Power Agency in September kicked off its annual Behind the Switch campaign.
The video-based social media campaign highlights careers within the utility industry that people may not be as familiar with as other career paths.
The campaign began in 2019 to give customers a behind-the-scenes look at the people and the work they’re doing to keep electricity as reliable as possible while making it as affordable as possible so they can enjoy their lives.
“Florida is very fortunate to have an incredibly talented public power family,” said Jacob Williams, General Manager and CEO of FMPA. “So many different types of people make up the team, and these videos allow utility customers to learn more about the people who keep the lights on. It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to spotlight our Members and those who may tend to stay behind the scenes,” he said.
The campaign has featured a variety of FMPA members over the years as well as FMPA’s various generation facilities.
This year, FMPA featured Clewiston to highlight the city’s AMI updates.
A video posted on Sept. 10 is about compliance, and features LaKenya VanNorman from FMPA and include representatives from Jacksonville Beach and the City of Winter Park.
Last fall, the 2024 campaign received an Award of Merit for the campaign in the web and social media category for utilities with gross revenues of $400 million or more.
Videos last year highlighted Sand Lake Energy Center and Stock Island Generating Facility to discuss the importance of reliable generation.
FMPA also received the same award for the 2022 Behind the Switch campaign, which showcased efforts by FMPA and its member cities to keep electricity as affordable as possible, including power plant maintenance, solar subscription programs, distribution mapping and cybersecurity.
