Joseph Wilson was named the next General Manager of Washington State’s Jefferson County PUD at the regular meeting of the PUD’s Board of Commissioners on July 15.
Wilson brings more than three decades of utility experience to the GM role with Jefferson PUD.
“I’m super grateful and humbled to be selected from the process,” Wilson said during the meeting.
Wilson was selected from five final candidates who were interviewed over three consecutive days in late June.
He assumes the GM position August 4.
Wilson is currently employed as Deputy General Manager–Power Delivery at Tacoma Public Utilities and has more than 30 years of utility experience.
“In a leadership role, I am not delivering service directly, so my leadership team will be dedicated to creating the environment—the systems and structures—so our employees can deliver excellent services to our customers firsthand,” Wilson said.
Wilson worked for Seattle City Light, Puget Sound Energy, Eugene Water and Electric Board, and Peninsula Light before beginning his tenure at Tacoma Power in 2010 as a System Planning Senior Power Division Supervisor.
Wilson, who replaces longtime PUD General Manager Kevin Streett, will lead the PUD’s 80+ employees and manage its $85 million-dollar annual budget, taking the helm at a busy time for the PUD, which has announced $70 million in electric infrastructure upgrades to be completed over the next four years, and is currently 2 years into a 5-year, $55 million rural broadband expansion.
Additionally, Jefferson PUD will assume operating duties for the Hadlock Wastewater Treatment Plant in late-2025, and more than $10 million in planned water system repairs and upgrades over the remainder of the decade.
Wilson said he looks forward to working with staff and the commission to deliver value to the PUDs customer-owners.
