Nico Procos has been named as Director of California public power utility Silicon Valley Power, effective July 7.
He has been serving in the acting role over the past several months, “demonstrating strong leadership and a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead,” SVP noted.
Following a comprehensive national search, he emerged as the top candidate to lead SVP “through this transformative time in our nearly 130-year history.”
With over 25 years of experience in the electric utility industry, he brings a proven track record of innovation and resultsm the utilty noted.
Prior to becoming Acting Director, he served as SVP’s second-in-command, Chief Operating Officer since June 2024.
His extensive background includes his role as General Manager of Alameda Municipal Power, where he spearheaded efforts to modernize operations and customer service, achieved a 100% carbon-free power portfolio, strengthened the utility’s financial position, kept rates stable, and led the rollout of 36,000 smart meters, all while prioritizing safety.
Prcos has also held key leadership roles with the Port of Oakland, the City of Palo Alto, and the California Public Utilities Commission.
"His deep industry knowledge and strategic vision will be instrumental in guiding SVP’s capital improvement efforts and expanding the City's power infrastructure to support a growing and sustainable future," SVP said.
