At its June 26 Board of Directors meeting, Illinois Municipal Electric Agency  members voted to approve the Village of Winnetka’s Power Sales Contract and New Capacity Purchases Agreement.

Winnetka, Illinois, is the 28th member to sign the new contract to continue their beneficial relationship with the agency out of the current 32 IMEA members.

Prior to bringing the contract to IMEA’s board for a vote, the Village of Winnetka unanimously approved the new contract at their June 17, 2025, Village Council meeting.

The new contract provides the village with wholesale power and ancillary services through their membership in the agency. The contract begins in October of 2035, when their current contract expires, and continues through May 31, 2055.

IMEA was formed as a Joint-Action Agency over 40 years ago, with Winnetka as a founding member.

Winnetka banded together with other Illinois municipalities that operated their own electric distribution systems to create the non-profit special unit of local government.

The purpose of this partnership was to collectively take control of their own destiny as it related to procuring predictable prices, affordable wholesale electricity for their communities, IMEA noted.
