The Florida Municipal Electric Association and Florida Municipal Power Agency on Aug. 26 recognize Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day -- a day to show gratitude to the people who risk their lives daily to ensure reliable delivery of electricity throughout the state.

The JEA Board of Directors voted unanimously on Aug. 26 to approve a plan for the utility to build a combined cycle natural gas facility at the former St. Johns River Power Park site.

The Midcontinent ISO on Aug. 26 shared the list of applications submitted to date for the Expedited Resource Addition Study, which includes 47 projects across 12 states, representing more than 26,500 megawatts of proposed new capacity.

Silicon Ranch will partner with Columbia-based Central Electric Power Cooperative to build a 100-megawatt solar farm that will support Meta’s first data center in South Carolina. Silicon Ranch will fund, build, own and operate the facility in coordination with Santee Cooper.

The Florida Municipal Power Association recently held a substation roundtable that tackled a number of topics. Specific topics discussed at the roundtable were fault location, isolation, and service restoration (FLISR), static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), human performance indicators, and substation robotics.

Ormat Technologies on Aug. 25 announced that it signed a 25-year extension to its existing power purchase agreement with the Southern California Public Power Authority for 52 megawatts from the Heber 1 geothermal facility.
