Electric Utility 101: Transmission
March 19, 2014
2 to 3:30 p.m. ET
Transmission lines are the low loss, bulk power transportation facilities in our electric grids. They connect the generation sector, through substations, to the distribution sector. They also provide strong connections between utilities and allow more efficient system operations.
This webinar provides a non-technical overview of the applications and function of transmission lines including why transmission lines are needed and the role they play in a reliable electric supply chain.
The webinar will also provide a high-level overview of the types of transmission lines, their characteristics in supplying the daily load patterns, and will address the major issues facing the transmission grid and the impact of those issues on the electric grid.
All webinars will be led by Wallace Barron, president of the Atlanta-based consulting firm Barron & Associates Corporate Solutions. He has over 40 years of experience in the electric energy industry, 15 of which have been with public power and cooperative systems. He previously worked as a vice president of marketing, customer service, and distribution technology at the Florida Power Corporation.
Wallace has a broad range of experience in the utility industry. His responsibilities have included key accounts, customer service, rates and pricing, economic development, demand-side management, strategic planning and distribution engineering. He is a frequent speaker at national and regional conferences and teaches a variety of courses for APPA.
