Early this month, the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission voted unanimously to amend its rule governing integrated resource plans for electric utilities to include energy storage as a resource for utility planning purposes.

A recent distributed energy resources plan put forward by a Hawaii electric cooperative includes an option under which there would be no utility compensation for energy exports during peak sunlight hours. Under this option, a customer would be allowed to serve all or part of their own load or store the energy for later use and different levels of compensation would be offered at other times of the day.

Under an energy plan approved Jan. 11 by the Town Council in the public power community of Berlin, Maryland, the Berlin Electric Department will strive to improve the town's energy efficiency and ramp up its use of renewable energy over the next few years.
