The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority recently announced that 184 employees completed a worker fall protection and prevention training event on St. Croix and St. Thomas.

The training, provided by the American Public Power Association (APPA) and funded through a grant from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), benefitted employees across multiple departments including Line, Plant Operations and Maintenance, Substation and Engineering.

As the Authority continues to prioritize safety on the job for its employees, proactively seeking out available training programs is a key part of safety adherence, it said.

Sage Services Group LLC conducted the fall protection and prevention training. Topics covered included fall hazards and fall protection measures with an emphasis on the utility industry, in addition to causes of injury and death while on the job in the industry. Employees also learned about the importance of pre-planning and pre-job briefings as part of prevention.
