The Modesto Irrigation District (MID) Board of Directors appointed Bill Schwandt as the District's General Manager during their November 10 Board meeting.
Schwandt joins California public power utility MID following a 35-year career with Moorhead Public Service in Moorhead, Minn. He had served as Moorhead Public Service's General Manager for 28 years.
Schwandt's duties as General Manager of Moorhead Public Service included managing professional and technical teams in electric, water and telecommunications utilities under the Moorhead Public Service Commission.
He led strategic planning, critical infrastructure planning development and management, and long-term water supply, power supply and transmission agreements and negotiations.
He also served as the Vice President of the Missouri River Energy Services Board of Directors, Vice President of the Midwest Electric Consumers Association Board of Directors and President of the Western Minnesota Municipal Power Agency Board of Directors.
Schwandt received his bachelor's degree in electrical and electronics engineering from North Dakota State University and a master's degree in business administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead. He is a registered professional engineer in Minnesota.
Beginning Tuesday, December 1, Schwandt will lead MID's day-to-day operations and more than 400 employees.
