Decosta Jenkins, president and CEO of Nashville Electric Service in Nashville, Tennessee, was installed as chair of the American Public Power Association Board of Directors at the Association’s National Conference in Austin, Texas, on June 12.
Jolene Thompson, executive vice president of member services and external affairs for American Municipal Power and executive director of the Ohio Municipal Electric Association in Columbus, Ohio, is chair-elect for 2019-2020. Colin Hansen, executive director of Kansas Municipal Utilities in McPherson, Kansas, is vice chair. Coleman Smoak, general manager of Piedmont Municipal Power Agency in Greer, South Carolina, is immediate past chair. Layne Burningham, chief operating officer and general manager of Utah Municipal Power Agency in Spanish Fork, Utah, is treasurer.
Jenkins chose five members of the board to serve with the officers on the APPA Executive Committee.
They are:
- Tim Burke, president and CEO of Omaha Public Power District, in Omaha, Nebraska;
- Tony Cannon, general manager and CEO of Greenville Utilities Commission, in Greenville, North Carolina;
- Leslie James, executive director of the Colorado River Energy Distributors Association, in Phoenix, Arizona;
- Andrew McMahon, superintendent of the Town of Massena Electric Department, in Massena, New York;
- and Jacqueline Sargent, general manager of Austin Energy in Austin, Texas.
Newly elected to the Association board this year are:
- Kevin Maynard, director of utilities of City of Bryan Utilities in Bryan, Ohio;
- Michael Peters, president and CEO of WPPI Energy in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin;
- Troy Adams, general manager of Elk River Municipal Utilities in Elk River, Minnesota;
- Ellen Burt, general manager of Stowe Electric Department in Stowe, Vermont;
- Nick Lawler, general manager of Littleton Electric Light & Water Department in Littleton, Massachusetts; and
- John Haarlow, general manager and CEO of Snohomish County PUD in Everett, Washington.
Five board members were re-elected to new three-year terms:
- Tim Burke, president and CEO of Omaha Public Power District, in Omaha, Nebraska;
- Hugh Grunden, president and CEO of Easton Utilities in Easton, Maryland;
- Kimberly Schlichting, COO and senior vice president of power supply of Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation in Smyrna, Delaware;
- Jim Ferrell, president and CEO of Jackson Energy Authority in Jackson, Tennessee; and
- John Benavente, general manager of Guam Power Authority in Mangilao, Guam.
Association board members are chosen to represent 10 regions across the country.
