It has been one year since the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted sweeping regulations related to 5G small cell wireless installations including on utility poles. The new rules for the first time subject public power utility poles and other government-owned facilities to federal “oversight” of rates, terms, and conditions. The American Public Power Association is currently appealing the FCC's Order. At the same time, many states have adopted new wireless siting requirements and Congress has introduced legislation that would further restrict local government and public power control over utility infrastructure.

Series Description
Participate in this three-part series to learn about the latest legal and regulatory developments, as well as the most significant issues facing public power utilities at the federal, state, and local levels with respect to these attachments—including an in-depth review of 5G wireless technologies (to separate fact from hype). The series will explore how public power utilities of all sizes are successfully negotiating agreements and managing wireless attachments and, in some case, seizing new business opportunities presented by these facilities.
