This one-hour webinar focuses on a three-tiered approach that may give public power utilities methods in mitigating the impacts of UAS. Presenters will provide subject matter that promotes discussion and provide “real world” events framing the need for awareness of UAS many dimensions and types. This webinar will also discuss recent DHS Industry Alerts related to Chinese manufactured UAS.
Recognition: Understand the possible threats associated with UAS, the legal authorities involved in responding to an unauthorized UAS event and reporting procedures.
Prevention: The passive countermeasures available for use in your facilities or distribution lines and daily field operations.
Preparedness: Overview of DHS programs that aid in the development of a UAS encounter program that could include reaction training, a pre-planned coordinated incident response and reporting to both the FAA and local law enforcement.
Conclusion: Public power utilities gain a better understanding of UAS, the threats associated with UAS operations by either witting or unwitting perpetrators, the technical legalities of the current array of countermeasures and permissible passive measures that can be used to minimize their effectiveness.
