On Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Eastern time, APPA will hold a webinar on "How Public Power is Governed: The Structures and Authorities of Utility Boards."

The responsibility for public power governance may rest with utility boards or city councils or a combination of both. In this webinar, APPA Senior Vice President Jeff Tarbert, will address the various structures of public power governance, how authorities and responsibilities may be divided, the pros and cons of the various governance structures, how to deal with inherent advantages and disadvantages of each model, and how to assure maximum effectiveness of whichever governance model your community has selected.

This is the second in a series of nine webinars designed to educate elected and appointed public power board and city council members on the responsibilities and processes of electric utility governance. Upcoming webinars will address duties, responsibilities and legal obligations of boards, federal legislative and regulatory issues, strategic issues facing public power governing bodies, utility financial operations, rate making, strategic planning and performance monitoring and accountability for boards and city councils.

Each webinar is worth 0.2 continuing education units, 1.5 professional development hours and 1.5 continuing professional education credits. This webinar series also counts towards completing APPA’s new Public Utility Governance Certificate Program.
