May 8, 2017
Washington D.C., May 8, 2017— Lincoln Electric System in Nebraska today earned the 2017 Award of Continued Excellence (ACE) from the American Public Power Association’s Demonstration of Energy & Efficiency Developments (DEED) program.
The award recognizes continued commitment to the DEED program and its ideals, including support of research, development and demonstration, improving efficiency, renewable resources, and support of public power. The award was presented during the Association’s annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference, held in San Antonio, Texas.
“As a utility, LES embodies excellence in many ways,” said Association President & CEO Sue Kelly. “When it comes to R&D and participation in DEED, there’s no question that LES is blazing a path of innovation that other public power utilities can follow. The net result is our whole industry gets better, and that’s the beauty of the DEED program.”
LES joined the DEED program when it began in 1980, and it has been an active member in the program for most of its 37 years. LES’s research and development efforts stretch across various parts of the utility, covering LED street lighting, harmonic filters to improve power quality, and environmental compliance. It constructed a modeling tool to help utilities evaluate various scenarios pertaining to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan. The utility is also a leader in sustainable generation and demand reduction. It has pioneered solutions for environmentally friendly treatment of wastewater for power plant cooling.
LES has been awarded five DEED scholarships and two DEED grants and is a three-time winner of DEED’s Energy Innovator Award.
