Manual, webinars explain fundamentals of the electric utility industry

Fall 2013

APPA has published the third edition of its Electric Utility Basics manual. The manual explains the fundamentals of the electric utility industry at an easy-to-understand level. It is designed to be a useful resource for public power governing boards, staff and customers, as well as legislators and regulators.

The publication was written by John Miner of Collaboration Unlimited, who is an instructor for the APPA Academy. It includes  sections on electricity behavior, utility infrastructure, system operations, industry and business structure, and the future of the electric utility industry.

Beginning in January 2014, the APPA Academy will offer a four-part webinar series on electric utility basics.  Monthly webinars  will begin on Jan. 15, 2014 and continue on Feb. 19, March 19 and April 16. The 90-minute webinars will cover generation, substations, transmission, and distribution. The webinars can be purchased individually or as a series. Each webinar will run from 2-3:30 p.m., Eastern time.

The third edition of Electric Utility Basics is available through APPA's online Product Store. To register for the webinars, visit www.APPAAcademy.org. —MATTHEW KONJOIAN
