Paul Ciampoli
Paul Ciampoli joins the American Public Power Association’s Integrated Media and Communications department as news director. Most recently, Ciampoli was senior managing editor at Platts, where he was responsible for the production of Megawatt Daily. At Platts, he managed a team of analysts, writers, and editors; coordinated news coverage among sector desks; and edited 10 to 15 stories daily under deadline pressure. As a reporter and editor in Washington, D.C., since the early 1990s, he has covered key federal regulatory agencies, Congress, the energy industry, and Wall Street. He earned both a bachelor’s degree in public communication and a master’s degree in journalism and public affairs from The American University.
 
The Sacramento Municipal Utility District Board of Directors in California appointed and reappointed board members to directors, effective Jan. 1, 2015. Dave Tamayo was appointed to replace Larry Carr, who is not seeking re-election. Rob KerthGenevieve Shiroma, and Bill Slaton were reappointed.

 

 


Tracey LeBeau
Tracey LeBeau, former director for the Department of Energy’s Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs, has been named transmission infrastructure program manager at the Western Area Power Administration in Lakewood, Colorado. Prior to her appointment at the Office of Indian Energy in January 2011, she developed 15 years of experience working in interstate pipeline, wind development and investing, and energy trading. She also co-founded an energy advisory firm.
 
Larry Parker, Richmond Power and Light board member, has been appointed to the board of directors for the Indiana Municipal Power Agency. Parker replaces former Richmond Power and Light General Manager Jim French, who resigned from the utility. 
 
 
 


Lena Smart
Lena Smart, vice president of information technology and chief information officer of the New York Power Authority in White Plains, New York, has been named 2014 Energy Sector Leader of the Year by the Energy Sector Security Consortium, Inc. She received the award at EnergySec’s Security Summit in Austin, Texas, in August. The award is given to a senior energy executive who is responsible for cybersecurity and demonstrates concern for the protection of critical infrastructure, engages in active participation in industry associations, and demonstrates innovation and creativity in their approach to security challenges. Smart is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC).


Mel Levine has been reappointed to the Los Angeles Board of Water and Power Commissioners in California. Levine was first appointed to the commission in August 2013, and will continue serving through August 2019. He was a member of Congress from 1983-1993, and a member of the California General Assembly from 1977-1982. He was a partner at the Gibson, Dunn, and Crutcher law firm from 1993-2012.
