Utility interactions with the credit rating companies will take center stage at the 2014 General Accounting, Finance & Audit Spring Meeting, April 24-25 in Washington, D.C.

Mike Mace, managing director for the PFM Group, will speak on "Building a Positive Relationship with the Rating Agency." He will discuss how to engage with the credit rating companies’ representatives; how to prepare for credit rating meetings; and how to use those meetings to build positive relationships.

Dennis Pidherny, managing director for Fitch Ratings, will provide a "Rating Agency Public Power Outlook." He will address current and upcoming issues that affect public power as a whole and talk about how the credit rating companies believe those issues will affect public power utilities.

Other topics to be addressed at the General Accounting, Finance & Audit Spring Meeting include controls and allocations for pole attachments; best practices on disclosure policies; the impact of regulatory and legislative initiatives; an update on key pronouncements by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board; and an open discussion on other accounting topics facing public power utilities.

Participants will have the opportunity to earn up to 13 continuing professional education credits (CPEs) in public accountancy. The meeting is open to all employees of APPA member utilities, joint action agencies, and state and regional associations. The cost to participate is $300 for individuals registering before March 28.
