The U.S. Energy Information Administration has posted its estimate of 2011 annual energy-related carbon dioxide emissions by individual states.

The data break down each state’s emissions by fuel (coal, petroleum, and natural gas) and sector (commercial, electric power, residential, industrial and transportation). The data include a summary table with total energy-related CO2 by state beginning in 1990; a table with emissions by fuel in 2010; and a table with emissions by sector in 2011.

Detailed tables for individual states provide emissions by fuel and sector for data beginning in 1980. Documentation on the methodology used also is included.

Emissions tables for each state are posted on the EIA website. —J.A.
