On Tuesday, Feb. 25, APPA will hold a webinar, "Duties, Responsibilities and Legal Obligations of Public Power Governing Boards," from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Eastern time. This is the second in a series of nine webinars designed to educate elected and appointed public power board and city council members on the responsibilities and processes of electric utility governance and policy setting.

The responsibility for public power governance may rest with utility boards, city councils or a combination of both. In this webinar, Jeff Tarbert, executive consultant for APPA, will describe the components of the public power business model and address the various structures of public power governance. He will explain how authorities and responsibilities may be divided; the pros and cons of the various governance structures; how to deal with inherent advantages and disadvantages of each model; and how to assure maximum effectiveness of whichever governance model your community has selected.

Upcoming webinars will address federal legislative and regulatory issues, industry issues and challenges facing boards, utility financial operations, rate making, strategic planning, performance monitoring and accountability for boards and city councils and achieving excellence in public power governance.

Each webinar is worth 0.2 continuing education units, 1.5 professional development hours and 1.5 continuing professional education credits. Webinars can be taken individually or as a series for a discounted rate. They can also be applied to APPA’s Public Power Governance Certificate Program
