Rodney Walker, a 24-year veteran employee of an electric utility, was severely injured in an electric arc flash in the 1990s. He will share his experiences of the accident at the opening Safety Breakfast at APPA's 2014 Engineering & Operations Technical Conference. Through his experiences, attendees will learn to identify precursors to these types of incidents and gain a better understanding of the importance of remaining vigilant.

Later at the conference, Jason Young will provide tips to conference attendees on how to create a high-performance culture that will boost productivity, employee retention and customer satisfaction.

Other keynote speakers and presentations at the 2014 E&O Conference will include J. Gary Stauffer, chair of the APPA board of directors; presentations of the APPA 2014 Safety Awards of Excellence and the DEED Award of Continued Excellence; and recognition of the 2014 Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) recipients.

The Engineering & Operations Technical Conference will be held April 6-9 at the Renaissance Oklahoma City Convention Center Hotel in Oklahoma City. The program is specifically targeted to utility professionals in the areas of communications and control; environment; generation and fuels; safety; system planning; transmission and distribution; and supply management.
