Energy efficiency topics featured at Customer Connections Conference

The 2013 Customer Connections Conference, Nov. 3-6, at the Hilton Portland Hotel and Executive Tower in Portland, Ore., will feature several sessions on energy efficiency.

In the "Best Practices in Energy Efficiency Program Design, Administration and Evaluation" session, Curt Atkins, energy services manager for Waverly Light and Power in Iowa, and Jason LaStella, director of public and cooperative utilities for EnergyOrbit, will offer strategies for designing effective energy efficiency programs. They also will review options for tracking systems and discuss the role of these systems in cost-effective program administration.

Another session, "Using Analytics to Engage Customers and Accelerate Energy Efficiency," will cover tools for collecting data, such as the Green Button Initiative, as well as methods for leveraging the data. The speakers, Marc Shkolnick, manager of energy systems for the Lincoln Electric System in Nebraska, and Elizabeth Jambor, manager of data analytics and business intelligence for Austin Energy in Texas, also will discuss tips for informing and engaging customers while maintaining positive communication and energy efficiency savings.

Wade Carey, energy services administrator for the Central Lincoln People's Utility District in Oregon, and Jeffery Feldt, general manager of Kaukauna Utilities in Wisconsin, will lead a session on "Using Energy Services Offerings to Attract and Retain Business Customers."

The Customer Connections Conference also offers sessions on key accounts, economic development, marketing and customer service, as well as roundtable discussions, networking breakfasts, receptions and other opportunities to share ideas and information.

Conference fees are $645 for APPA members and $1,290 for nonmembers who register before Oct. 11. There are also three pre-conference seminars on crisis media training, social media and customer service topics.
