The Department of Energy has named Elliot Mainzer as acting administrator of the Bonneville Power Administration on an interim basis. BPA Administrator Bill Drummond and Chief Operating Officer Anita Decker have been placed on administrative leave, reportedly in connection with a probe of hiring practices. In a July 16 report, the DOE Inspector General’s Office preliminarily concluded that Bonneville engaged in a number of prohibited personnel practices." The report expressed deep concern that "Bonneville had initiated questionable adverse personnel actions against a number of ... staff members who either cooperated in one or more of the reviews of Bonneville's personnel practices or who had previously raised related concerns with Bonneville's management." However, the Inspector General's Office said it was "not in a position at this point to conclude that the actions taken thus far are retaliatory in nature."
