On Thursday, March 28, APPA will hold a webinar, "Duties, Responsibilities and Legal Obligations of Public Power Governing Boards," from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Eastern time. This is the third in a series of nine webinars designed to educate elected and appointed public power board and city council members on the responsibilities and processes of electric utility governance.

When elected or appointed to a public power board or city council, individuals often find there is neither a specific listing of duties and responsibilities nor a formal job description for their new position. In this webinar, APPA Senior Vice President Jeff Tarbert will examine the legal and fiduciary duties incumbent upon public power board and city council members (whether determined by ordinance or judicial precedent); the policy responsibilities of governing boards and how they differ from management. He also will discuss additional responsibilities such as assuring an effective CEO, monitoring the organization’s performance and determining the effectiveness of the governing body itself.

Upcoming webinars will address federal legislative and regulatory issues, strategic issues facing public power governing bodies, utility financial operations, rate making, strategic planning and performance monitoring and accountability for boards and city councils.

Each webinar is worth 0.2 continuing education units, 1.5 professional development hours and 1.5 continuing professional education credits. To register, visit www.APPAAcademy.org under "Webinar Series."

This webinar series also counts towards completing APPA’s new Public Utility Governance Certificate Program.
